Portrait Sessions - What to Wear (and NOT wear!)

New Page 3

We often get asked what clients should and should not wear to their portrait sessions. Our only REAL rule is that you should wear something real, something you are comfortable in and will allow your personality to shine through. With that said, here are a few suggestions we've come up with:

    - If you don't wear khaki's in real life, don't wear them to your session! :)
Jeans make for more relaxed, fun, and modern photos!

    - Skip the solid, white shirts. Colored shirts photograph best.

    - No plaids/thick stripes

    - Graphic T's are a GREAT way to show your personality!
(But we suggest skipping the shirts with large company logos on them.)

    - Accessorize!! Bring hats, wear jewelry, scarves, umbrellas, any fun
"thing" that means something to you as a couple or a family.

    - If this is a family or engagement session you don't have to match
exactly. Come on now, how often do you go out in public all dressed
the same? Let your individual personalities show in your outfit(s) through
a similar concept or feel to your dress.

    -  For the guys: cool jeans, a collared shirt with a loose tie is fun.
Make sure your shoes are nice too, as we will often get shots of your feet.

    - For the girls: a fun jacket with colorful jewelry with a neat pattern
underneath, cool jeans and high heels are great too. Don't bring all formal
wear/dresses - a good mix of jeans, casual, and a dress turns out best.

    - Maternity: The most important thing is your belly, so form-fitting clothes
look better than loose ones. We really like the look of jeans with a shorter
shirt...maybe a pre-pregnancy shirt. A button down shirt that you can open
to show your belly is also a good idea.

    - Children: Keep it simple. Bright colored shirts, jeans. Nothing with large
logos or cartoon characters on them. You may also want a "dress-up"
outfit...maybe their latest Halloween costume or favorite PJs! Bring along
their favorite toy or some other accessory that defines them at this moment
        (blankets, skateboards, dolls, etc.)

Here are some good examples of what to wear:

Fun belts and shoes = fun pictures!

We heart graphic-Ts and cool jeans!

Bringing "props" to a session makes for really cute photos! Umbrellas, bright scarves, chairs, couches -- you bring it, we'll shoot it!

Who says you have to tuck in your shirt or wear stuffy shoes? Casual clothes are fun too!

Coordinating bright colors works really well!

Again, wearing coordinating, bright colors will really make your photos pop!
